How is Earthwool different from other glasswool?

Earthwool improves the already exceptional environmental credentials of glass mineral wool and is manufactured with an increased use of sustainable raw materials and recycled glass (which result in the distinctive brown colour). It has a higher thermal performance than our standard loft roll(0.040 W/mK Lambda value).

Why is Earthwool brown?

Earthwool is brown in colour resulting from the use of new, more sustainable raw materials including glass and other ingredients. The brown is the products natural colour i.e. It does not contain any colour additives or dye

What is the thermal performance of Earthwool?

How much loft insulation do I need?

To meet current Building Regulations you need a minimum of 270mm of mineral wool insulation. With Earthwool, we recommend 100mm between the ceiling joists and 200mm laid across the joists. This will achieve a better U-value than the requirements of the Building Regulations, and provide additional long term reductions in the energy usage and CO2 emissions associated with the dwelling. For top-up only, just use 200mm across the joists

How do I find out how much loft insulation I have?

Simply push a tape measure or ruler down the side of a piece of loft insulation until it hits the plasterboard ceiling and read off the depth.

How do I know how many rolls I need to insulate my loft?

First, you need to find out the length and width of your loft. You can do this by using a tape measure to measure the length and width of your house (in metres) or, if you don’t have a tape measure, a large stride equates roughly to 1 metre. Once you have these measurements, enter them in our calculator here, choose the thickness(es) of Earthwool you require and click calculate.

How long would it take me to insulate my loft?

Once you have cleared any stored items out of the loft, allow about 3 hours for installation in an average sized (about 25m2) loft. You will need to install one layer of 100mm between your ceiling joists, then a second layer of 200mm on top (cross layered) to comply with current Building Regulations.
